According Istidjab, hotel rate increases will not be done at the same time the government raised fuel prices, but chosen a more opportune time, when the peak of tourist visits to DIY. Period of tourists visiting Yogyakarta province can be divided into three categories, namely low season, high season and peak season. Low season usually occurs in three months at the beginning of the year, while the high season begins in April, then the peak season starts when school holidays or June.

“Then there will be low season back during the fasting month, high season in November, and the peak season in December. So, if it will raise rates, it is expected around June,” he said. In addition to the option will increase hotel rates, a number of other measures will also be conducted internally pengusahan hotel, among them make savings of fuel utilization.

When the hotel has not raised the price, but the government has raised fuel prices, the hotel can do a number of options, such as eliminating the bonus that is often given to guests. “If it is reduced hotel guests, the hotel can also do other strategies, such as renting out meeting rooms available,” he said.

In addition, Istidjab also said it was necessary to intensify the promotion of tourism in collaboration with actors and other parties such as Asita and DIY Tourism Department, Tourism Department and other city and county. “Promotion should be done, either into or out of the country. Already there are plans to overseas promotion, such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand,” he said.

Promotional purposes is to enlarge the “pie” for the hotel business, because during 2011 there was an additional 13 new hotels in the province with as many as 900 additional rooms. Currently rated hotels in Yogyakarta as many as 44 hotels, and about 700 hotel jasmine hotel. Until this March, a five-star hotel occupancy averaged between 60-65 percent, while during 2011 the average occupancy of about 70 percent five-star hotel.

Public interest was great enough to start planning your tour. It is evident from the interest of visitors who thronged the show “Garuda Indonesia Travel Fair 2011″ on Saturday (11/12/2011). In the exhibition held from 11 November to 13 November 2011, the tour packages offered by travel agents more international than domestic travel.

One is the price of airline tickets are offered to the route from Jakarta to Singapore for example, only USD 86 for the return trip. While the airplane ticket from Jakarta to Bali route is still valued around USD 55 for a one-way.

Stefani, Bayu Buana travel agency staff, disclosed that the current Indonesian people prefer to travel abroad than at local destination because ticket prices are relatively not much different. Moreover, She continued, domestic tourism destination choices offered in the tour package is still struggling around Java and Bali.

“Actually, today some domestic tourism began again highlighted, for example, people who want to travel Indonesia has begun to ask travel packages to Raja Ampat and Komodo Island,” says Stefani. However, he said, prices for tour packages to Raja Ampat and Komodo Island is still considered high enough for the size of the domestic. Thus, people prefer to go travel abroad because the price is almost the same.

As an illustration, travel agency offering tour packages Raja Ampat currently about Rp 5 million to $ 9 million. Price does not include airfare to Sorong which could reach USD 3 million for the return trip. While at the same price, potential tourists can enjoy a complete package tours to China for 8 days.

Komodo National Park is ranked top 10 on the interim voting result by New7wonders of Nature www.new7wonders.com version. As quoted from the website www.new7wonders.com, voting for the New7Wonders of Nature has entered the final week. Announcement of winners will take place on November 11, 2011.

In a report submitted by the New7Wonders website (N7W), five places in Asia included in the top 10. Ten finalists were the Dead Sea (Jordan, Israel, Palestine), Grand Canyon (United States), Great Barrier Reef (Australia), Halong Bay (Vietnam), Jeita Grotto (Lebanon), Jeju (South Korea), Komodo Island ( Indonesia), Puerto Princesa underground river (Philippines), Sundarbans (Bangladesh, India), and Vesuvius (Italy).

Head of Communications for New7Wonders Eamonn Fitzgerald said 10 finalists was the result temporary. This composition may change prior to the determination of the seven manmade wonders of the world based on polls N7W.

“So, the temporary top 10 that we announce today are subject to change. With millions of votes that will go, finalists are now not included in the ranking of 10 while still allowing for the entry in 7 Wonders of the World,” Fitzgerald said on Sunday (6 / 11 / 2011).

President and founder of New7Wonders, Bernard Weber, said the inclusion of five candidates from the Asian continent show that the world is becoming attractive targets. Responding to these preliminary results, the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Nirwandar questioned the transparency of the ranking.

“If it is experience, there’s no transparency of the vote. That makes what, we do not know. If the rankings while always there, sometimes we can see dragons at number two, sometimes number 18. That’s what we are questioning the time. Essentially what we can ranked in the meantime, So how many total votes. This, right, as if it would rank up to him how, “said Sapta to Kompas.com, Sunday.

Previously, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (Kembudpar) had become an official supporting Committee as the party who registered the Komodo National Park to the New7Wonders. Subsequent developments, N7W revoked as official supporting Kembudpar Committee since Monday (07/02/2011). Kembudpar then prepares a lawyer because it considers such removal occurs unilaterally.

Not only Indonesia, the Maldives as one of the finalists also questioned the transparency of the incoming sound. Different from Indonesia, the Maldives decided to get out of the arena N7W with a variety of reasons, among others N7W asking for money for various needs and also the problem of transparency of the vote.

“Details can be viewed on our website at www.visitmaldives.com. In addition, we also see there is no transparency in the ranking of the vote,” said Simon Hawkins, representatives from the Government of Maldives, at a press conference here on Monday (15 / 8 / 2011).

Jay Subyakto along with 10 other leading photographers seeking to express the other side of Indonesia through the work of the photos featured in the book “Indonesia A Surprise”. The other hand, according to Jay, that in addition to beautiful things, beautiful, do not cover up a bad thing as excessive exploitation of the environment, illegal deforestation, environmental vandalism, natural disasters, and so on.

“Here are some photos of hundreds of acres of trees in forest uprooted, broken heads Javan rhinoceros, elephants whose feet were chained, if they do not understand the meaning to the photo may look beautiful in photography, but there is something to be disclosed when You read the poems and essays that detail revealed by Goenawan Mohammad ironic fact that there will be Indonesia in it, “Jay said at the launch of the book” Indonesia A Surprise “in North Art Space, Art Market Ancol, Jakarta, on Saturday (22.10.2011 ).

He expressed the most beautiful places in the world for him is Raja Ampat. He also said Raja Ampat as the areas most difficult to reach to get the best pictures. Moreover, he says, almost all the tourist attractions in Papua controlled by a foreign party, as an example to the Peak Jayawijaya must request permission from Freeport.

In addition, he continued, the cost is quite expensive to Papua. Even so, he revealed that Papua has the most comprehensive in the world of marine life, birds of paradise up to 100 species. Unfortunately, Jay-up, exploitation of their natural lot, let alone there will be mining nickel that would interfere with marine life.

Meanwhile, one photographer Jez O’Hara, revealed that the nature in Papua still ninety percent untouched by man and nature seemed still slightly damaged.

“Freeport itself contained in a small region in Papua when compared to oil palm companies clearing forest in Papua. Moreover, there is now way cheaper if you want to Papua as a ferry ride from Flores to Papua.” Said the man of Irish descent who have become citizens.

He wrestle the world of photography since the 1980s. In the book “Indonesia A Surprise”, most of the photos of his work made in the range 1995 to 2010. He took photographs of the air by helicopter or private plane like other types of microlight aircraft.

Jay then gives examples of photographs of Mount Bromo Mount Bromo photographing not only looks beautiful, but instead details bererupsi at Mount Bromo.

“We have a beautiful tourist spots, but most domestic tourists are reluctant to go to remote places like the Raja Ampat. The people we do not feel ashamed if they do not know the tourist attractions in Indonesia and more to feel proud to know the attractions neighboring countries especially when it visited. Our people are competing for the vote of Komodo Island, but not necessarily have visited or will visit, “he added.

Therefore, Jay Subyakto add about how to introduce Indonesia to the community,

“Promotion to introduce the wealth of Indonesia is to create a roadshow to schools in Indonesia with video while traveling Indonesia, it is most effective, then the overseas roadshow to introduce Indonesia and present it visually,” he said enthusiastically recounted his experience doing roadshows about tourism in Indonesia.

Regarding the book “A Surprise Indonesia, Jay said that during these books are still a collection of photos of stylish postcards or tend to show a beautiful thing-just beautiful.

“Until we get the concept of giving another reality that occurs in Indonesia such as the exploitation of the environment, natural vandalism, natural disaster until the conditions in Indonesia,” he added.

Photo exhibition “Indonesia A Surprise” in North Art Space, Art Market Ancol, Jakarta, held from 21-30 October 2011. 119 pages thick book contains 10 photographs of renowned photographer Jay Subyakto, Kemal Jufri, Jez O’Hare, Julian Sihombing, Yori Antar, Hermanus Prihatna, John Suryaatmadja, Riza Marlon, Ardiles Chain, and Oscar Motuloh.
